Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams each received more than $5m (£3.2m) as earnings from their song 'Blurred Lines'.

The information about each artists earnings was made public as part of the ongoing case involving the hit single brought to court by members of Marvin Gaye's family; who are seeking $40m in damages due to what they claim is plagiarism on the part of the writers in relation to Gaye's 1977 hit 'Got To Give It Up'. It was revealed in court yesterday, via a subpoena on the Creative Artists Agency who look after Thicke's earnings, that the artist made over $5m from the song as too did Williams. T.I., the third featured artist on the track made more than $700,000 (£455,000). reports that the total the profits for the single to date are $16.675,690 (£10.85m).Gaye’s family want $40m (£26m) in damages, a figure they say is 50 per cent the 'Blurred Lines' profits plus compensation for the reduction in the market value of licensing Got To Give It Up and a share of Thicke’s touring income – estimated at $11m (£7.1m). Earlier in the trial Thicke performed a medley of songs by U2, Bob Marley and The Beatles in court as evidence that many songs share similar chords and melodies without necessarily copying one another. Thicke sang sections of 'With Or Without You' by U2, The Beatles' 'Let It Be', Bob Marley's 'No Woman, No Cry' and 'Man In The Mirror' by Michael Jackson as part of his legal teams efforts to prove that 'Blurred Lines' is not improperly derived from Marvin Gaye's 'Got To Give It Up'.The case is expected to conclude on March 6.
