“I talk about God, love or life in my music”

Over the years, the award-winning songwriter has received multiple profiling, with many branding her as a gospel, inspiration, or romantic singer. But Nikki Laoye has revealed her various subjects of discussion in her music.

Nigerian singer Nikki Laoye has come out to change the perception of her music.

Over the years, the award-winning songwriter has received multiple profiling, with many branding her as a gospel, inspiration, or romantic singer.

Nikki Laoye just dropped her sophomore album, ‘123 Project’, and it contains songs that talk about 3 major topics – God, love and life. She told Pulse that the topics represents all she does with her music.

“I have had different names thrown at me, she’s gospel, or she’s inspiration, no she’s circular gospel, and I’m like you guys just calm down, I’m Nikki Laoye, I love music and there are 3 major things I love to talk about. I either talk about God, I talk about love, or life. That is what my music is all about.” Said Nikki.

“Because there have been a lot of confusion all over the years, if I release a love song, people are like ‘oh, is she not supposed to be a gospel artiste?’, and I’m like okay.”

Nikki Laoye’s sophomore album contains 15 tracks, and comes after her first effort in 2008, ‘Angel For Life’. The singer has received a number of successes from all the singles, with an impressive 9 awards in 2 years further buttressing the quality of her music. One of the singles on her album is a cover of Chris Brown's urban smash hit song, 'Loyal'.

“It’s actually an album that is very dear to my heart, because this is first of all my second album. My very first album was ‘Angel For Life’, released in 2008, and that is about 7 years ago, and finally I’m coming out with another album.

“This album is a compilation of singles that I have released over the years, and a couple of new songs cause I have realised that from time to time, I have been dropping one single or the other, and the truth is that it’s not everyone that is online. Online release has been a major fad these days, so I’m like let me finally put them all together and finally further express who Nikki Laoye is.”
