Singer Geniuzz signed to Effyzzie Music in 2015 drops his debut piece of work, an EP titled "Slice Of Geniuzz" on Friday, May 12, 2017.
Prior to the release of the EP, Geniuzz in 2016 began creating a buzz with a cover of Desiigner's 'Panda' (Panda-monium) before dropping off his own singles - 'Correct', 'Underrate' and 'Firewood' among other songs.
"A Slice Of Geniuzz" sees the artist document his life concerns as a young adult praying for better days, while laying it all at the feet of his maker.
It’s a beautiful start of the EP, a low-tempo song titled 'Gbono' where Geniuzz slowly airs his message, almost sounding like an established rap powerhouse who is taking the slow mellow and slow poetically. Every young man can relate well to this opening track.
Label mate Soti also blesses the track as she lends her soothing voice on the song, coming from the angle of the ladies.
Geniuzz instantaneously changes the tempo with the Caribbean dancehall mid-tempo love song ‘Love and affection’ which sees Geniuzz chasing love for a lady object of his attention.
He goes the party way with the upbeat song ‘Party all night’ to suit the ‘unrepentant’ party hoppers. Geniuzz puts in a decent effort on this.
On ‘Show me love’, he returns to his ‘weakness’ for the ladies, on a fine Dreybeats groovy production.
With ‘Tattoo,’ he continues his quest for love for this shawty, utilizing well that Caribbean vibe he’s got going on for him.
‘Single’ does not stray far away at all from the now established theme of the EP - Love and affection. Geniuzz assures the lady he is up to the task to shower good loving upon her in cash and kind.
The skits in between the tracks tries to paint a picture of Geniuzz’s hustle to make a name for himself in the music industry.
‘Sorry’ finds him ‘emotionally unavailable’ to detractors including ladies who looked down on his humbling status back then and are now acting familiar now that he’s getting some recognition and fortune in his chosen field.
Geniuzz enlists label mate and African internationally celebrated singer Yemi Alade on the track ‘On fire’ repping their label and celebrating their successes thus far.
The bonus track ‘Firewood’ a pre-released single with Falz is a sensually teasing joint rightly with a catchy hook and fine rap verses from Falz the bahd guy.
The second bonus track sees Yemi Alade feature again on the ‘Underrate’ high-tempo track, with playful lyrics and chorus, where the acts give the deuces up to their detractors.
Geniuzz is no doubt a talented act who has got all it takes to attract a huge fan base given his versatility. He’s also got the voice, the star quality and a label that’s got his back 100%.
All he needs do is continue with the momentum, and keep working on perfecting his songwriting, stagecraft and keep rolling with experienced hands that clicks with him as on this EP.
"A Slice of Geniuzz" is a damn good appetizer for what’s coming next from Effyzzie’s Geniuzz.
