M.I Abaga’s ‘The Chairman’ Album Listening Party

The rapper held an album listening session at last night’s ‘Industry Nite’, and here are three things we learned from the affair.

Now it’s finally out…after 4 years of guessing, storytelling and a mixture of press, Chocolate City Vice President and rapper, MI Abaga now has a new album.

M.I Understands That He Took Forever To Drop An Album

Music stars are judged not only on the success of their calculated branding and larger-than-life personalities. That works, but the main yardstick for success is the music itself. Take away all the good living, friends, paparazzi, and parties, and all that remains is just the music. Art in its melodious form.

M.I Abaga understands this elemental truth. He truly reckons that when everything fades away and life ebbs slowly from him, all that will be left for him and his progeny will be the body of music that he put out.

M.I has been in the firing line of late. Without an album, coupled with the emergence of various acts such as Phyno and Olamide, the spotlight has been on him to go the extra step to assert his dominance in African rap music. Critics scrutinised his every word and deed, milking it to a level where everything becomes a negative. M.I truly suffered, bearing the weight of the ‘enemies’.

Now he has dropped a new album, and he can finally get that off his neck. He knows he was under attack, and it is reflective in the lyrical content of the tracks. While performing on the night, M.I was on the brink of tears, as his emotion ran high and his deepest thoughts flowed. Even during the performance, the content was one packed with emotion, and relief.

Chairman album is barely 24 hours old, and the plans to optimise the financial gain is in progress. But plans should also be crafted to avoid the mistakes of the past years. A new album should be recorded again.

There’s No Love Lost Between Jesse Jagz  & M.I

M.I was 3 years old when Jesse Jagz was born. They grew up together, chased the same girls, fought similar battles and conquered the same foes. They moved to Lagos and made it big, but the dynamics of business caused a separation of business.

Jesse has long become the ruler of a new movement, Jagznation, and M.I has achieved Vice President status in Chocolate City, but the words from without had created a rift between both brothers.

At the ‘Chairman’ listening party, Jesse Jagz was present and happy. He has nothing but love for his brother, and his mien showed that. All he felt was joy. Joy for MI, his big brother was is still on course in his long walk to greatness. He also revealed something else; bygones are bygones.

Jesse Jagz has moved on from all the negativity and bad press that came from his split with Choc City. All he has in his heart is the will to go on, and he gave a snippet of this, when he said, ‘Shout out to Chocolate City”. Pure class, this guy.

Later, the duo took to the stage and gave a performance of their old songs, which brought to mind the days of the ‘Choc Boys’.

Jesse Jagz and M.I Abaga are brothers. Through thick and thin, the bond of blood will prevail.

Initial Signs Look Good For ‘The Chairman’ Album’

The Chairman album already has a lot of friends. Many people all over the internet and the streets are listening and reviewing. All that has come out so far is positivity.

With 17 tracks and 27 artistes, the new album is not lacking in dynamism and content. It has that and more. Throw that in with the curious mix of songs that have an opposite. Every song on The Chairman album has an equal and opposite song. It’s like a musical Law Of Newton.

Let’s all grab a copy and also get a good feel of it. But for now, all the compilation has succeeded in acquiring are friends and fans. Let’s hope the foes don’t make an early appearance.
