According to AMC, last night’s 90-minute season five finale episode of 'The Walking Dead' was the highest-rated finale in series history, with 7.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 15.8 million viewers.

This is the second highest demo rating and the third largest overall viewership in the show’s 70-episode history.

Fox’s 'Empire' wrapped its first season earlier this month with a 6.9 rating, and 17.62 million.

The season five finale episode was also the top engaging series of the day on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr, taking over from all cable, broadcast and streaming episodic series.
