The first episode of “Tecno Own The Stage” is aired! The show focused on the auditions across the three countries participating in the competition, showing us the journeys of the final 15 contestants.

It is no longer news that the top 15 contestants that everyone has been waiting for have emerged. These contestants will  feature on stations on DSTV like Africa Magic Showcase, Africa Magic Urban, Maisha Magic, and Maisha Magic Bongo over the next few weeks.

Drawn from Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania, with each country having 5 representatives, the show is set to change the face of music competitions in Africa. The karaoke contestants from Nigeria are Vickey Avicks, Shaapera Makepeace, Carl Chime, Tosin and Gazby.

Those from Kenya are Yubu, Sickin, Pascal, Ramar254 and Mary. For Tanzania, the contestants are Banye, Nandi, Kechu, Zooccu, and Jeff Mduma.

The contestants are set to battle to gain the support of the judges to secure a spot in the live finale. The third place winner takes home $10,000 and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone, whilst the second place winner wins $15,000, a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone and a three-month internship opportunity with a renowned record label.

The first place winner wins a grand prize of $25,000, a Phantom 5 smartphone, and the chance to record a song with one of the judges. The winner will also get the chance to record a music video and tour with a popular musical act.

The judges at the competition, rapper, MI; top female Nigerian music act, Yemi Alade and Bien, a member of the famous Kenyan music group Sauti Sol listed the star qualities they needed their ideal Karaoke contestants to possess, they include: Great voice, emotions, confidence, good sense of humour and stage presence.

Highlights of the show includes the emotional moment a Kenyan contestant revealed how she survived a car accident as a child, MI playing around with some contestants and Yemi Alade dancing to the son of one of the contestants during the Lagos audition.
