Shemar Moore who has played FBI special agent Derek Morgan in “Criminal Minds” for 11 seasons, has left the show.
At the end of Wednesday, March 23, 2016 episode, Derek decided to leave the BAU to focus on his wife and baby.
His exit comes after his character Derek was abducted, tortured, nearly killed and finding out his girlfriend Savannah was pregnant. Derek and Savannah got married after his abduction, and had a child together.
Speaking to TVLine on his exit, the actor said he wants to "walk my dogs, travel, get married, have kids. I want balance, and it's hard to do with the schedule that we have."
Showrunner Erica Messer shared a statement addressing Moore’s departure; “All of us at Criminal Minds are sad to say ‘see you later’ to Agent Derek Morgan. Even sadder that our friend Shemar Moore isn’t on set anymore. It was definitely a surprise that he wanted ‘To leap,’ to try new things.’ For those reasons, we have nothing but love and respect for him and his choice. But it doesn’t mean we can’t also be really, really sad.”
In 2008, Mandy Patinkin who was one of the original cast of show, left his role as Jason Gideon after two seasons.
“Criminal Minds” revolves around an elite squad of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most-twisted criminal minds.
Moore is also popular for “Butter,” “The Brothers,” “Diary of a Black Woman” among others.
