2.4 kg of methamphetamine was found in his possession even after he was slapped with 10 strokes of the cane for bringing in drugs into Malaysia earlier in 2011.
Nigerian Movie Director Slammed 15 Years In Jail!
The Malaysian government has had enough from drug smugglers and came to a final decision to carry out sever sanctions on anyone caught in the act; a minimum of jail time or the capital punishment. Seems Nigerian movie director, Ifeanyi John-Paul Aguonu, 38, didn't catch the memo.
Justice Abdul Alim Abdullah of the Malaysian High Court conveyed deep concerns about Nigerians being the highest number of immigrants smuggling drugs into the country even though Malaysia applies no-mercy to any victim if jammed.
“Our country has a strict rule when it comes to drugs, that the law provides a death penalty for drug trafficking. If convicted of a capital punishment, you could have been hung to death” the judge stated before passing his judgement on the Director.
Apparently, John Paul dodged the bullet because his counsel sent in a representation and an attorney making the General Chambers to agree to an alternative charge.
Questions are; Does the Malaysian Court have the right to charge and jail him in Malaysia? Is 15 years enough for his crime?
