Reboot of 1997 movie in works at ABC

ABC is developing a TV show based on the 1997 movie of same title, 'My Best Friend's Wedding.'

 

ABC is developing a half-hour comedy that will serve as a sequel to the 1997 Julia Roberts film, ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding.’

The upcoming series is collaboration between ABC and the producers of the original movie.

Set to kick off from where the movie left off,  the show will follow Roberts' character, Julianne Potter, navigating her life in New York City with her best friend George as her guide.

The 1997 movie told the story of Julianne Potter, a 27-year-old New York restaurant critic, who  made an agreement with her longtime friend Michael O'Neal,  that if neither of them were married by the time they turned 28, they would marry each other.

Three weeks before her 28th birthday, Michael tells her that in four days, he will marry Kimmy Wallace, a 20-year-old student from a wealthy family.

The TV series will be written by the original writers of the 1997 Ron Bass, and Jessica Amento.
