Sequel takes over box office

Opening slightly less than its original, the sequel 'The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' has beat 'Black Mass' to take over the box office.

'Maze Runner' sequel, 'Maze Runner : The Scorch Trials' won the box office race over the weekend, bringing in $30.3 million, which is slightly below its 2014 prequel's  $32.5 million.

Based on James Dashner’s young adult saga, the sequel stars  Dylan O’Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Patricia Clarkson, Rosa Salazar, Aidan Gillen and Giancarlo Esposito.

Plot.

'In this next chapter of the epic "Maze Runner" saga, Thomas and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD.

Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD's vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all."

Taking the 2nd spot is the Johnny Depp movie 'Black Mass,' which brought in $23.4 million.
