As the African film industry awaits the awards season, the polls continue. Who will win the award for 'best actor in a comedy" at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA)?
The nominees for the 2016 AMVCA were announced on Friday, December 11, 2015. Five men have been nominated in the category this year. Meet the funny men up for this prestigious award:
Bowoto Jephthah – “Head Gone”
Here's a breakdown of the synopsis: A psychiatric hospital bus driver losses some patients on referral to a federal hospital in a road mishap, to cover up their mistake the driver and nurse assistant picks up unsuspecting commuters to substitute the patients, the plot thickens in conflict as the sane commuters tries to prove their sanity in a psychiatric instruction and the escapees patients try to adjust to a new environment.
Folarin Falana – “Jenifa’s Diary”
The TV series is a spin off from Akindele’s film “Jenifa”. On the show, Suliat returns to the city to work as a hairdresser and pursue her education.
IK Ogbonna - “Stop”
In 2005, IK Ogbonna was a part of the Amstel Malta Box Office reality show. He didn't win, however this didn’t stop him from following his dreams. This is Ogbonna’s second AMVCA nomination.
“Stop” is about a drama about three people: a slum dweller about to be evicted, a woman who’s HIV positive and a bride-to-be who has to undergo a genotype testing, All three who find their lives are about to take a new route
Ime ‘Bishop’ Umoh - “Caught In The Act”
“Caught In The Act” sees Bishop playing the role of a policeman. When a man wakes up a day after his bachelor party to find his fiancée’s valuables gone, he has no choice but to seek the services of the Nigerian police force.
Kelechi Udegbe - “Officer Titus”
Kelechi Udegbe plays the lead role in online series “Officer Titus”. The actor studied Acting at Wale Adenuga's film school, PEFTI.
We first got introduced to “Officer Titus” in June 2013 with the second season of the show making its debut in 2015. The show is about an overzealous traffic law enforcement officer and his encounter with traffic offenders in Lagos State.
