'Game of Thrones' TV series breaks Emmy record

After winning 'Best Drama Series' award for the first time, HBO's 'Game of Thrones' went on to set new record at the 2015 Emmy Awards.

'Game of Thrones'  led the 2015 Emmy race with 24 nominations, and ended it as the record holder for most wins for a series in a single year.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015, the HBO show shattered records at the 67th Emmy Awards by winning 12 awards, 'Best Drama Series' award inclusive.

'Game of Thrones' bested 'Mad Men,' 'Orange Is the New Black,' 'House of Cards,' 'Homeland' and 'Better Call Saul' to win the award for the first time, after several years of nominations.

The show beat previous holder 'The West Wing'  which won 9 awards in 2000 Emmy Awards, to become the show with the most wins.

The series won eight of the 12 record breaking awards at the recently held Creative Arts Emmy. Other wins includes Outstanding Writing , Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage.

HBO recently revealed that there would be at least 8 seasons of the hit show.

The fifth season of show came to an end in June with the epic death of Jon Snow.
