According to Nieslen, the finale which ran opposite NBA finals, brought in an average of 8.11 million viewers.

This recent record beats its Season 5 premiere, which brought in an average of 8 million viewers.

'Game of Thrones' became HBO's most popular show in 2014 after its season 4 finale brought in 7.1 million viewers.
