Citing the example of dark-skinned Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who made all black people proud, Kwame said she has ended the misconception that one needs to be light skinned to make it to the top, especially in Hollywood and other Entertainment industries across the world.
According to Kwame, Lupita Nyong’o’s ‘Best Supporting actress’ win at the Academy Award for her outstanding performance in Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave”, is a proof that Yvonne Nelson’s attempt to bleach her skin to look whiter cannot take her to the top.
Kwame also advised African women to be proud of their complexion.
This is what he wrote on his Facebook wall:
U don't need Cocoa Butter 2 be a good actress or win Oscars. Black is beautiful. Black is powerful. Black is a blessing. Say it loud! I'm black and proud. Hope Yvonne Nelson is listening.
