“We make sure there’s something for everybody” says event organizers

The event will see participation from a host of local and international creative professionals including filmmakers, celebrities, actors, directors, film critics and visual artists.

The much-anticipated Africa International Film Festival(AFRIFF) is set to run through Sunday, November 8, and Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria.

2015 marks the fifth edition of the film festival. Over 600 films were submitted this year for the annual festival, double the number of what was submitted last year. Of this number, 180 films will be screened over the seven days of the festival. Meanwhile 197 films are in the race for this year’s AFRIFF film awards.

Pulse Nigeria recently interviewed Afie Braimoh, the AFRIFF Project director and actress Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju who is on the event PR team.

Braimoh, said the event provides a platform for the film industry to come together, network, be a part of discussions on issues affecting the film industry and also attend training workshops.

The film experience will see participation from a host of local and international creative professionals including filmmakers, celebrities, actors, directors, film critics and visual artists.

AFRIFF is not just about celebrating pioneers in the industry and showcasing films; it seeks to create a platform to provide information for industry professionals and newbies and investors. Most importantly the organisation seeks to invest in the future of the industry.

“Our focus with the film festival is actually on students. We believe that students are the next generation of film producers, directors, actors and actresses”, Braimoh said.

She disclosed the festival organizers would be partnering with Africa Magic, British Council, Relativity Studios and the Montana State University in the United States of America, to further invest in educating the best students in the various trainings at the 2015 festival.

“AFRIFF is passionate about training, about seeing that the people who grow in Nigeria and Africa are prepared and equipped to compete with colleagues around the world,” said Akindoju.

Akindoju was one of twenty Nigerians who was a recipient of a training organized by AFRIFF at the Relativity Studios in Los Angeles earlier this year.

This year's festival workshops will be held at the Afrinolly studios while movie screenings will be held at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas (GDC) at City Mall, The Palms and at the Silverbird Galleria.
