Natalie Portman’s directorial debut, ' A Tale of Love and Darkness' premiered on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Cannes Festival.

Based on Amos Oz’s novel, 'A Tale of Love and Darkness' is based on Oz’s memories of growing up in Jerusalem in the years before Israeli statehood with his parents; his the academic father, Arieh, and his dreamy, imaginative mother, Fania.

Natalie Portman acquired the film rights to the book and  began shooting the movie in February 2014 in Jerusalem.

The film which marks her directorial feature film debut, has her playing the role of Oz's mother

Produced by Ram Bergman, the film also stars Amir Tessler, Makram Khoury, Shira Haas, Neta Riskin and Gilad Kahana.
