Many have criticised her for the contents of the book; love her or hate her, the media personality is turning the negative to positive and making money out of it.
Here are five things Nigerian celebrities can learn from the media personality:
1. Control your narrative
Once the news of the infidelity in Toke Makinwa’s marriage surfaced, everyone had an opinion on how it should be handled.
The radio personality kept mum on the situation and finally quenched the thirst of busybodies in her new book. Everyone was already talking and guessing what was going on behind closed doors. Now she’s told her story herself and is cashing out from this.
2. Stay ready
Toke Makinwa is a celebrity and she knows this. She knows people are always watching - watching her on TV or on her YouTube vlog, listening on radio and following her on social media. The personality is a queen when it comes to packaging and facing the spotlight.
3. Promote your brand
You can’t sit back and assume your brand will get the necessary buzz without you doing the work. Toke Makinwa is passionate about her brand and has made it her job to see to it that she succeeds.
4. Be creative
She was releasing a book, yet she was very creative in the manner in which it was released. On her birthday, November 3, 2016, she announced she had been working on a project titled “On Becoming” and released a video directed by Kemi Adetiba to tease the arrival of the book.
5. Work with a team
We can’t stress this enough - you can’t do this alone. You’ve got to work with a team. With how Makinwa has positioned her brand, from her fashion style to her business decisions, she’s obviously not doing this alone.
