Nigerian rapper Olamide shared a very distasteful and ignorant meme after the Orlando shooting in America over the weekend.

The meme is the infamous Nick Young meme with the caption “when somebody asks you if you’re ok because they know you were in Orlando but you're not gay.” It was a distasteful move from the award winning rapper.

Rightfully he was dragged on Instagram for such an insensitive post by female footballer Chichi Igbo. She wrote “you are officially a douche bag for being so insensitive over such tragedy, gay or straight, lives were lost and I don't see how anyone can make joke with such, and for the record, not everyone that goes to a gay club is gay, these are people that have friends and families that most times accompany them to clubs and there are also those that are not so judgmental n prolly love the type of music played in the club. It could have been anyone so pay some fucking respect or be SILENT!!!

50 people died inside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The nightclub was a solace for gay people to handout. Unfortunately a madman and coward decided to go on a murder spree because he didn’t like two men kissing. The world is hurting right now and it was bad of Olamide to post something so insensitive.

All lives matter, whether gay or straight, a life is a life. So what if you are not gay, that does not make you better than the people who were shot in the nightclub. This kind of joke is expensive to make.

It’s time for not only Nigerian celebs but Nigerian people to be more sensitive to homosexuals around us. Your religion and personal opinion might be against their sexual orientation but that doesn’t mean they should be persecuted or victimized. We no longer live in the dark ages, homosexuals are not inferior humans.

Olamide has taken down the offensive post but he has not apologized. In a saner climate he would have been forced to apologize after much pressure from gay rights groups. In Nigeria we do not have such so Olamide’s offensive action would go without any repercussion.

Nigeria is a society where anything goes unfortunately and certain wrong statements would go unpunished. In as much as Olamide positions himself as some sort of rebel he should be cautious about what he says. He has a large following and big influence in the music industry. His words should be carefully weighed and examined before he says anything in public.
