Kristen Stewart says she has every reason not to join social media and she simply doesn't understand the appeal of online interactions.

In a new interview, the former 'Twilight' star revealed that she finds the notion of sharing one's personal life with the public, "empty and distracting".

"It’s weird because it does shape the way I have to approach my everyday life," Stewart tells The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter' podcast on Monday, December 28, "I’ve never fed into it. I’ve never had a public Twitter. I’ve never had a public Facebook or things where people go on and look at your every move, like Instagram… because it’s just so empty and distracting."

The actress, who is currently promoting her new film, 'The Clouds Of Sils Maria,' which deals with the nature of celebrity obsession, further expresses her frustration with people who “don’t view [social media] as what it is,” which she feels is “nothing at all… It doesn’t exist.”

The actress, however, does understand there’s a demand for celebrity news, admitting that such content produces “a lot of money [and] a lot of hits on websites."
