The Duchess of Cambridge dazzled in Princess Diana's signature tiara when she joined the Queen and senior members of the Royal Family at a glittering diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday December 8, 2015.
Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II joined the couple. The annual white tie event consists of the Queen meeting with representatives from different countries and is attended by 1,500 guests. This marks the first royal event the couple has attended this month.
But it's not just any tiara. It's the Lover's Knot tiara, which belonged to the late Princess Diana, and was gifted to Wills' mother from Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding day in 1981 to Prince Charles. This is the first time anyone has worn the piece since Diana's tragic death in 1997.
The tiara contains swinging pearls hanging from 19 diamond arches capped with lover's knots, some of which were composed by Queen Mary's jewels from her collection. The tiara is fairly heavy even by royal standards and was said to have given Diana headaches when she wore it.
Kate has worn tiaras three times before her death. Most recently she showcased the Lotus Flower tiara once owned by the Queen Mother and a favorite of Princess Margaret for her first state banquet at Buckingham Palace in October.
