He said in the statement:

"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

Cathriona, an Irish makeup artist, died from a suicide on Monday, Sept. 28, and left behind a note that reportedly placed the cause of death as the end of her relationship. Her final social media posts, although cryptic, have now pointed to the fact that she had been considering suicide for sometime.

Authorities confirmed toon Tuesday that a note was found inside Cathriona's California residence, where she was pronounced dead on the scene.

Cathrion and Jim kicked off their relationship in 2012, and split several months later. But this past May, their romance was rekindled again, according to Us at the time.

The two remained together through at least Sept. 16, when Carrey last mentioned her on social media. "Grand Central, NYC," the actor captioned a photo of himself standing under an arched awning on Twitter. "Photo by Cathriona White."
