Rock legend dies at 70

Ian Fraser Kilmister, 70, widely known as Motorhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy, died shortly after he was diagnosed of cancer on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Los Angeles.

Ian Fraser Kilmister, 70, widely known as Motorhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy, died shortly after he was diagnosed of cancer on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Los Angeles.

The band confirmed his death on its official Facebook page, saying, “There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from the Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family. We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud.”

The British musician was a member of Hawkwind from 1972 to 1975 before founding heavy metal band Motorhead. The band’s biggest hit was “Ace of Spades” in 1980.

He had said that he drank a bottle of Jack Daniels every day for many years, and was known for his prodigious consumption of drugs and alcohol, though he is said to have finally slowed down in the past few years. He also claimed to have slept with 1000 women even though some believed the figure is higher.

The musician, who also suffered from diabetes, had been plagued with health problems in recent times and the band were even forced to postpone a string of shows earlier this year.

Lemmy was a roadie for the great Jimmy Hendrix and was inspired by the Beatles. Lemmy was not married as he claimed the lady he ever loved- Susan Bennett died of heroine overdose at the age of 19. He must have truly loved Miss Bennett because he dedicated his autobiography to her.

The Grammy award-winning band Motörhead, released 23 studio albums over a 40-year period and were set to tour the UK in January in support of their 23rd album , which was released in August of this year.
