So what if she’s a billionaire’s daughter?

DJ Cuppy gets a lot of knocks for her father's wealth but deep down she is a hardworking woman trying to have a career.

Her rise though has in some quarters been met with criticism and scepticism. Her privileged background has many to believe that her popularity has to do more with her father’s wealth than her hard work, dedication and talent.

“DJ Cuppy no sabi jare. She is just using her father’s talent”, “If no be her popsy nobody go send that girl” or “She is just a trust fund kid making noise” are some of the comments that follow DJ Cuppy about.

Now DJ Cuppy is not the greatest DJ in Nigeria by a long shot, and she needs to work harder on her craft to be taken seriously but you cannot deny that she puts in work.

Since breaking into the industry some two years ago DJ Cuppy has released two large mixes- '' and ''. Going through her Soundcloud page she has also dropped several mixes. Last year she went on an 8 nation tour in Africa and also donated to charity during this period.

You can raise up your hand and blurt “But she is using her father’s money” but last time I checked there is nothing illegal, immoral or wrong in using your father’s wealth to further your career. That is how dynasties are created.

People should stop shaming DJ Cuppy’s privileged background. There is nothing bad about coming from a rich family. A lot of her critics are just mad that they do not have the same opportunity as her. If anything bad must be said about DJ Cuppy then it must be about her skills. Music is a capital intensive business and DJ Cuppy has a lot of that to push her career.

DJ Cuppy puts in work, constantly staying in the news, releasing photos, having events and being active on social media. Apart from these, she has released a lot of mixes and is a guest DJ on MTV2's ‘Uncommon Sense’. Her networking skills are also top notch.

People should look at her abilities before tagging her a ‘trust fund kid’. DJ Cuppy needs to brush up definitely but you cannot knock her hustle. There are many trust fund kids who just sit down and spend money all day. DJ Cuppy is not one of them.
