Diva Calls Taylor Swift And Nicki Minaj "Non-Divas"

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Thursday, the renowned Diva seemed to have dismissed big stars Swift and Minaj by refusing to comment on the power of their singling abilities.

Beyonce once sang: "A Diva is a female version of a hustler" but it looks like the word "Diva" is  now being used for just 'anyone' who has managed to hit the charts with one or two songs.

According to legendary singer Aretha Franklin, the 'so-called fast rising divas' Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj are nothing even close! However, singers like Adele, Alicia Keys and the late Whitney Houston were held in high esteem!

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Thursday, the renoun Diva seemed to have dismissed big stars Swift and Minaj by refusing to comment on the power of their singling abilities.

During the interview, posted by the news outlet on Thursday, Aretha was asked to describe Taylor and got only "Great gowns, beautiful gowns" in response... nothing on 'how good, great or terrific' she is as a singer/songwriter and certainly wasn't the response desired by Taylor's many fans and the more than one million purchasers of her latest “1989” album.

As for Nicki, the 72-year-old music icon sealed her lips, going on Joan Rivers on the rapper! "My mama said if you don't have anything nice to say, Don't say anything at all!Aretha flat-out refused to comment on Nicki Minaj, indicating that her opinion is not favourable. However, 'Hmm... I'm gonna pass on that one,' was the only answer Aretha would give.

Aretha's disdain for certain modern aspects of singing wasn't limited to just two aspiring divas – she's also clearly nott a fan of technological enhancements to voice either a.k.a auto-tunning! She said:“What is auto-tune? I don't even know what auto-tune is,' Aretha responded when asked about it. After being given an explanation, she said: ''That's ridiculous!''

Aretha's newest album, 'Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics' released October 21 is out and, consists of Aretha covering various artists' music, including Adele's hit, Rolling In The Deep. Her cover of the song debuted at number 47 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

Best known for her 1967 recording of Respect, Aretha has had a total of 20 number-one hits in her career, plus 100 songs that made the Billboard charts.

Wow! Do you guys think she stands the right to judge who is or isn't a diva after all these accolades?
