'Antiquated' politicians should hand over to 'young blood' — Youth Advocate

Nigeria will only develop if the present crop of ‘antiquated’ leaders give way for the youth who have new ideas that the nation needs, according to a youth advocate.

A UK-based Nigerian student and youth advocate, Arerebo Salaco Yereinmene Peters (Salaco Jr), has called on the present crop of 'antiquated' politicians to give way for youths and new ideas.

Yereinmene, who is also the National President of the Burutu Transformation Student Ambassadors in Diaspora (BTSAD), told Student Pulse that there is an urgent need to get the youth involved in politics and create a utopic where youths are the helms of affairs.

"The current political scenario in Nigeria needs young blood to change the old political scenario into Youngistan!" Yereinmene said.

He lamented the state of Nigerian politics which has seen youth schemed out of politics, which they see as a "dirty game."

"Is it because they are [reliant] on our antiquated people who are holding antiquated thoughts and customs?" he asked.

Yereinmene said only with the involvement of youth can the nation progress.

"If the youngsters don’t come up with new and better ideas, how will we progress?

"Youth can handle it in a different way, as winners are not the ones who do different things but who do things differently."

According to him, the youths must challenge the leadership by t contesting for positions.

"Young politicians need not have a political background. They need to have zeal and desire to serve the nation," added.

Yereinmene also encouraged youth to shun violence and embrace more purposeful lifestyles.
