The teenager, identified as Bolu in a Punch report, was allegedly beaten by his father's second wife, Esther Modupe, on the 16th of June, at their rented apartment located in the Onipanu area of Lagos state.

Reports say the cane mistakenly hit his left eye while she was reprimanding him for coming back home late from church.

The eye became swollen and worsened over the course of a month, despite being treated at a private hospital, until he became partially blind.

“The woman worked as a private school teacher, and she was very nice to Bolu and his younger brother," he said.

"The two also liked her, and you will not even know they were not her children.

"But it turned out that on that day that she was angry and flogged the boy. The cane hit him in the eye."

The source added that Bolu's mother, who had left their father 10 years ago, returned to take him after the incident.
