Student born a man asks public for N3.1m to become a woman
Nikki Hayden, a University of Westminster student who was born, a man has launched a public appeal for fund to enable her undergo surgery to fully become a women.
Nikki Hayden, a University of Westminster student, set up an account on Crowdfunding website Gofundme.com hoping to raise £10,000 (about N3,125,343).
The money is meant for surgical procedures like breast implants and removal of her Adam's apple.
She said the National Health Service (NHS) cannot fund her operations, hence the need to turn to members of the public.
"The NHS won't pay for the additional ops which are crucial to help me become who I am," she said.
"So I've had to launch a transgender surgery campaign online."
Nikki said getting the operations is important to her life, adding that she had even contemplated suicide.
"Ever since I can remember all I've ever wanted is to be female.
"I felt I was never going to fit in and I withdrew into myself. I had very few friends in school and none outside of school. My evenings and weekends were spent alone, usually reading.
Nikki has already done surgery on her nose in August and she hopes to fully become a woman in two years.
She is presently studying for a psychology degree.
