An argument between a commercial motorcyclist and a customer over a N1000 note has led to the destruction of a hostel occupied by students of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA).

Trouble started after a student of the University of Abuja paid a cyclist a N1000 note and the latter said he had no change. After the case was settled, commercial motorcycle operators invaded the student quarters and burnt it down.

An eyewitness, Innocent Oguejiofor, told Leadership that the trouble started after a student paid a cyclist his N100 fare with a N1000 note.
The cyclist said he had no change and an argument ensued, prompting the student to borrow N100 to pay his fare.
Not long after, commercial motorcycle operators invaded the student quarters, named Zion hostel, and burnt it down.

“An okada man brought back one of our hostel inmate from the junction and he gave the operator N1000, only for him to say he didn’t have change," Oguejiofor said.
"So, after a minor standoff between our friend and the operator he borrowed N100 to pay the man."
"He left and came back later with other bike operators to attack us; the police came and arrested some of our friends and the bike men.
"When they left another set of bike men came and started destroying rooms in the hostel and set them ablaze.”
The attackers fled when some student alerted policemen stationed at a nearby checking point.
