Striking lecturers disrupt matriculation ceremony

The lecturers reportedly stormed the venue of the matriculation ceremony to protest their against the management over nonpayment of salary and arrears.

The lecturers who started a strike action on Monday, April 9, over the nonpayment of their 11 months arrears of salary and 14 months check-off dues took their protest to the venue of the event and continued with their protest at the gate of the school.

Expressing their frustration with the school management, the protesting lecturers displayed placards some of which reads: “Prof. Eboh commits academic sacrilege, Internal Auditor bears Polytechnic mace;” Cleaners dressed in academic regalia;” “Our retired colleagues are dying;”  “Please, pay their 18 months pension arrears;” “Stop intimidating union members for demanding for the rights of their members” and “Pay our 11 months arrears of salary and 14 months check-off dues.”

According to Vanguard, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, SSANIP and Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic have earlier warned their members against participating in the matriculation ceremony until their 11 months arrears of salaries and check off dues are paid.
