NANS hails Mimiko as NUC approves Nigeria's 139th University
Governor Olusegun Mimiko has been commanded by the National Association of Nigerian Students for the establishment of the Ondo State University of Medical Sciences which is the 139th university in Nigeria.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has earlier this week given its approval for the university making it the 139th university in Nigeria as well as the 40th state university in the country.
In a Friday statement signed by NANS’s Vice- President, National Affairs, Ayenuro Timileyin Gbenga, the union hailed Mimiko for the specialized medical science institution which is touted to be the first of its kind in Nigeria and third in Africa.
“Nigerian students appreciate Mimiko for his massive contributions and efforts aimed at uplifting the education and health standards of Ondo people," the statement read.
"This will impact greatly on Nigerian students who have interest in medical and health discipline and also promote Ondo state in terms of education and health."
NANS also asked the governor to improve infrastructure at the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, while hailing his developmental efforts in the education, health, agriculture and environment sectors.
NUC had also cleared the institution to begin admitting students.
