Non-teaching staff of universities suspend their nationwide strike
The unions said the strike which started in December was suspended after extensive consultations.
The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwuoke, announced the suspension of the industrial action at a briefing on Wednesday, March 14 in Abuja.
Ugwuoke said, “based on extensive consultations with our various organs, we hereby announce the suspension of the strike action embarked upon by JAC with effect from today, March 14.”
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) include the National Association of Academic Technologists, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.
FG plans to settle the non-academic staff unions
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has said it will source for eight billion naira within five weeks to pay the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige announced this at a resolution reached at a conciliation meeting with the Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities in Abuja on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.
