Buhari, APC can solve Nigeria's 'serious education crisis' — don

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari must address the serious crisis in Nigeria's educational sector or face the wrath of Nigerians who will not take excuses for failure.

The Head of Department of Political Science of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria, Malam Nuhu Ramalan, said this in an interview with Daily Trust.

He said there is a lot to be done to rejuvenate the educational sector.

"Well, one needs not to say that the education sector is in serious crisis," Ramalan said.

"From the management of the sector to students’ enrolment into various levels and categories of public schools, one can see the numerous problems.

"It is always heartbreaking if one visits any of the public primary schools around him."

He said the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) government would have to address these issues or face the wrath of Nigerians who see Buhari as a hero.

"Therefore, Buhari and other elected leaders have serious challenges ahead, particularly in handling the problems of our education sector.

"I think those in APC had understood that Nigerians are looking for messiahs, so Nigerians cannot afford or tolerate excuses from the government they have elected," he said.

"Most Nigerians are now ready to reject any government that fails to perform."

He however expressed confidence in Buhari's ability to get the job done.

"I think Buhari’s refusal to lose hope in his struggle would help him overcome some of the challenges facing our country, not only the education sector.

"Therefore, with a good team of people that will form Buhari’s cabinet, education and other sectors of the economy would experience improvement."

Buhari will be sworn in as President on the 29th of May after winning the 2015 elections.
