Gombe state government has said it will soon introduce free school feeding and other incentives to attract school-age students to education.
Dankwambo plans to lure Gombe student to school with free food
Gomber state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, had said his government plans to introduce free school feeding and other incentives to attract school-age students to education…
The state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, said this on Monday when the Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Prof. Abubakar Njodi, visited him.
He said the government is concerned that school enrolment figures are still low despite the fact that it had spent N20 billion on education in four years.
It is now looking towards new ways of bringing school-age children to schools.
"Now we are thinking of introducing feeding in day schools and introduction of other incentives to attract the pupils and their parents," Dankwambo said.
The governor urged the university to support the government for the benefit of the citizens, adding that about 3,000 of it's graduates had been recruited into the state's teaching workforce.
Prof Njodi thanked Dankwambo for his efforts in the education sector, adding that the university will continue to support his government.
Governor Dankwambo’s strategy might be inspired by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna who in early August announced that education at all public primary and secondary schools in the state will be free from September 2015.
Students will also get free food and uniforms.
