Varsity dares its staff members
LASU authorities have dared its academic and non-academic staff to sign the nominal register or forfeit their salaries.
The University management advised its academic and non-academic staff to make sure to nominal roll before the fifth day of every month or risk forfeiting their salaries.
The university made this directive known in its official bulletin obtained by Punch on Sunday, January 3.
The bulletin, dated December 30, 2015, said members of staff must henceforth resume the signing of the nominal roll in their various faculties, colleges, schools, departments, centres and units from January 2016.
It added, “The university management also reiterates that as it is the practice, failure to submit the nominal roll by the fifth of every month by any faculty, college, school, department, centre or unit will lead to the forfeiture of salary of the concerned member of staff for that month.”
According to reports, the signing of nominal roll was always the norm in the institution until March 2014 when there was a disagreement between disagreement between the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, and the workers’ unions, comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Senior Staff Association of Universities.
