52% Of Candidates Make 5 Credits In June/July NECO Exams

More than half of the candidates that sat for the 2014 June/July NECO examinations secured five credits as opposed to the 30% that passed the WAEC examination which has been much criticised in recent weeks

Over 52% of the 978,886 candidates  that sat for the June/July 2014 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) earned five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

According to the Registrar and Chief Executive officer of the Council, Professor Promise Okpala, 72.58 percent of the candidates scored credit level and above in English Language, and 69.49 percent in Mathematics

Okpala said the 72.86% of Chemistry, 69.38% of Physics and 67.83%of Biology candidates made credit grades.

He added that only 0.44 percent were involved in malpractices.

In stark contrast, no fewer than 70 percent of the candidates that sat for the May/June West African Examinations Council (WAEC) failed.

Announcing the results in August, the head of national office (HNO), Mr Charles Eguridu, said of 1,605,613 candidates whose results have been fully released, only 529,425 candidates were able to obtain credits in five subjects including English language and Mathematics.

Meanwhile, candidates can now begin checking their results online.
