Police arrests 10 poly students for cultism

Mr David Abuluya, the Proprietor, Nacabs Polytechnic, Akwanga, Nasarawa state, says 10 of its students have been arrested during the 2014/2015 academic session for alleged involvement in cult activities.

Abuluya made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akwanga on Wednesday.The proprietor said that the arrest followed a tip off by the security unit of the school.

He warned students of the institution against engaging in cult activities, examination malpractice and other social vices.

"During the last academic session, our school security unit through the management informed the police on the activities of students suspected to be cultists because we have informants among the students.

"When the police came, they arrested 10 students suspected to be cultists for interrogation and since then, there is no any new case of such negative act and those arrested have left the school," he said.

According to him, the institution is known for its academic and moral standards, warning that it will not tolerate acts of cultism, indiscipline, examination malpractice and other social vices.

He said: "Everybody is aware that private institution like this was established with the aim of complementing government's efforts on improving standard of education in the state and for the betterment of the society.’’

Abuluya also said that the institution had cancelled the award of 'Pass' for National Diploma (ND) to its graduates with effect from 2014/2015 academic session in order to improve on the standard of education.

"We have qualified lecturers to teach the students and we also have the necessary modern facilities in the departments.

"The need for such decision is to make the students take their studies seriously, so as to improve on the standard of education,’’ he said.
