NIS begs graduates to apply for jobs...1 year after several applicants died in stampedes

Nigerian youths have been urged to apply for jobs at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) as the Federal Government sets up a Presidential Committee to oversee its on-going recruitment exercise.

This new recruitment drive is coming almost a year after several youths died in stampedes at various recruitment centres across the country.

As many as 18 people are reported to have died in the Saturday March 15 exercise which required applicants to pay a N1000 participation fee.

NIS Comptroller-General, David Paradang, who came under fire following the infamous 2014 exercise, is now urging Nigerian youths to enlist with the Service, adding that the process would be transparent.

“Nigerian graduates interested in the NIS job should take advantage of the new recruitment exercise because the NIS would ensure that the new recruitment is fair and credible," Paradang said during a visit by the Africa Youth Patriotic and Development Mission.

Paradang, said the Service needed new hands to help secure the nation's borders.

“Nigerian youths are needed to patrol the country’s borders and hence the need to recruit capable hands into the service. Nigerian graduates should have faith in the ongoing recruitment into the NIS; a committee has been set up to oversee the exercise for credibility sake.”

He also urged Nigerians to "help the immigration service with information" as it works towards effectively policing of the border.

Recently, the Service, though it’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Chukwuemeka Obua, alerted the public about criminal elements using fake websites and social media accounts to defraud members of the public.
