Nigeria gets 2 new private universities as FEC gives nod
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved two new private tertiary institutions the Edwin Clark University, Delta State and Hezekiah University, a Christian institution based in Umudi, Imo State.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the universities, a move the Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, said was made to address the inadequate access to tertiary education in the country.
Akwashiki said the FEC approved the universities after their presentation by the Minister of Education Ibrahim Shekarau.
"The minister of education said in a country where we have 160 million our university, it is not enough to go round," Akwashiki.
"And therefore there was a need to approved additional universities.
She said the National Universities commission (NUC) also spoke in the favour of the approval of the universities.
"The National Universities commission (NUC) explained to Council why these two universities merited approvals and there were so approved".
