Students in Liberia will return to their classrooms on February 16 after the government announced that it is ready to re-open schools in the Ebola virus scourge in the country.
Liberia schools re-open February 16 …after 3605 deaths
Liberia says it is ready to reopen schools in the country, nearly six months after they were closed to stop the spread of the Ebola disease that has killed about 3605 Liberians.
Liberia, one of the West African countries worst hit by the Ebola Virus Disease, closed its schools six months ago to contain the disease.
The Country Representative of United Nations children organization (UNICEF), Sheldon Yett, said the organisation is partnering with the Liberian government to ensure the students' safe return to their school.
Yett said schools will be given anti-Ebola materials to keep the children safe from the deadly virus.
The Liberian Deputy Minister for Administration at the Education Ministry, Ramses T. Kumbuyah, said the anti-Ebola materials will be distributed among 5,181 Public and Private registered schools.
Kumbuyah thanked UNICEF for its support.
Liberia had a total of 8478 ebola cases and as many as 3605 deaths, according to WHO data.
Centers for Disease Control puts the number of Ebola related deaths in Liberia at 3739.
