Speaking at the launching of the programme, the minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah said government alone cannot fund education in the country and asked other institutions to emulate the noble initiative of The Albino Foundation.

“I would like to urge other Non-Governmental Organizations in Nigeria to emulate the foundation in ensuring the education of various vulnerable populations. Government alone cannot fund education; therefore government requires the support of well-meaning individuals, organized entities, and the generality of Nigerians, as the country cannot develop without the education of its citizens.”

The minister said “It is my firm belief and of course that of the Federal Ministry of Education that the Albino Foundation as the key driver of the albinism education in Nigeria deserves commendation for their unrelenting efforts at drawing much needed attention nationally and globally on the plight of persons with albinism.”

“The unfolding story of albinism in Nigeria cannot be told without highlighting the pivotal role being played by the foundation. The commitment of the Foundation towards the education of persons with albinism especially children with albinism is a clear indication of its unrelenting effort in building a literate society” the minister added.

The founder of The Albino Foundation, Chief Jake Epelle lamented the difficulties persons with albinism encounter in schools, and appeal to government to give special attention to persons with albinism due to their sight impediment.

Epelle thanked Total E&P Multipurpose Cooperative Limited for their support to the foundation, even as he appeals to benefiting parents to make judicious use of the grant.
