10 private universities that are not owned by religious institutions
If you wish to attend a university without religious rules, these 10 private schools have no religious identities.
This could be because some faith-based universities are popular for their expensive school fees and are sometimes in the news because of their rules.
Nevertheless, there are other private tertiary institutions in the country and for those admission seekers, who wish to attend private universities that are not run by religious institutions, here are 10 of the educational institutions you can consider for your university education.
1. Christopher University
Christopher University was approved by the Federal Government in February 2015. The University is located on a spacious land area of over 100 hectares and situated in Mowe, Lagos / Ibadan express way. The proprietorship of the university belongs to Translucent Management Services.
2. Oduduwa University
Located in Ipetu modu, Osun State, Oduduwa University is named after the progenitor of the Yorubas, Oduduwa. It was founded in 2009 and as a university named after Oduduwa, the institution has no affiliation with any religious group or institution.
3. Afe Babalola University
Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, (ABUAD) is a private institution founded by a popular legal practitioner and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Afe Babalola in 2009.
ABUAD has made and still making its marks as one of the best private universities in Nigeria as it ranked second best private university four years after its establishment.
In fact, ABUAD management does not allow its students to wear religious dresses because they believe such dresses can breed discrimination.
4. Baze University
This higher institution was established in 2011, it is one of the very popular universities in Abuja. The school which was established by an Economist and Politician, Sen. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed does not have any religious identity.
5. American University of Nigeria
The American University of Nigeria is a private university in northeastern Nigeria that offers American style higher education programs. The school is situated in Yola and it is believed to be one of the very expensive universities in the country. The university is reportedly owned by the former Vice-President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
6. Igbinedion University
Located in Okada, Edo state, Igbinedion University is the first private tertiary institution in Nigeria. The institution is owned by the Igbinedion royal family of Benin Kingdom and does not share an affinity with any church or Islamic group.
7. Elizade University
Elizade University is a private institution situated in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Nigeria. The University aims to be an institution with the best traditions in the production of self-reliant, ethics-conscious, globally competitive graduates. The institution was established by a prominent businessman, Michael Ade-Ojo in 2013.
8. Adeleke University
Adeleke University is a private tertiary institution located in Ede, a town in Osun State. The university is owned by Adedeji Adeleke, father of David Adeleke, (Davido) an award-winning musician.
9. Lead City University
Lead City is one of the prominent private universities in the South-western part of Nigeria probably because it is the first private tertiary institution in the largest city in Nigeria.
10. Nile University
Founded in 2009 in Abuja, Nile University of Nigeria is a private university which is said to be the first of Nigerian-Turkish international Colleges. The institution attracts students from Nigeria and beyond and does not impose any religious rule on them.
