Ice skating origin story

This young woman’s incredible story began in faraway United Arab Emirates, where she was born.

Her love for ice skating began when she was just 12 years old after she saw a Disney movie called ‘Ice Princess.’

From that moment, her passion was born and she was determined to do anything and everything including waking up at 04:30 in the morning and practicing before school.

Despite her determination, Lari’s father initially refused to give his consent because of his conservative Muslim beliefs and culture.

This prevented her from joining skating competitions during her teenage years. Eventually, she got his permission and she is now her biggest fan.

From struggle to success

Over the years, Lari has managed to overcome many challenges including finding ways to maintain her modesty while showcasing her Islamic faith as she performs incredible routines.

Nike also involved her and other incredible female athletes in its first Pro hijab campaign.

Lari is a reminder that Muslim women can and are doing amazing things in their different fields.
