During Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas' visit to the Vaticanon May 16, 2015, the media reported that the Holy Father called him “an angel of peace.”
Are Pope Francis’ statements contradicting?
The Vatican spokesperson said the Pope used the word angel, in place of messenger.
That comment rubbed srael's off on the bad side, especially the fact that Abbas was given a medal by the Pope.
Later, a Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said 'Pope Francis meant no offense to Israel by referring to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as being 'an angel of peace' and intended to encourage harmony between the two sides.'
The Vatican spokesperson said the Pope used the word angel, in place of messenger.
Right now, an email sent to Henrique Cymerman, allegedly from Pope Francis, is currently trending on Twitter.
An excerpt from the email reads 'Whoever does not recognise the Jewish people and the State of Israel falls in antisemitism.' See Cymerman's tweet.
Is this meant to pacify Israel? Are Pope Francis’ statements contradicting?
