One of the students, Mohammed Saminu Kusa, said they were protesting because since the arrest of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky by security agents, he has not been taken to court neither released.

“The protest is not only taking place in Kaduna metropolis but in almost big cities of Nigeria like Kano, Kastina, Sokoto, Jos and Bauchi. We will not stop the protest until our leader is released,” Kusa said.

A youth corp member who joined in the protest, Aisha Yunus said that many of the Shiites members are still in detention in Kaduna.

“We are calling for the release of about 200 of our brothers still in detention. There is no justification keeping our members and leader in detention without charging them to court. What is happening is unfair and against democratic tenets,” Aisha said.
