Star angers Muslims by flashing ankle inside mosque

American singer and actress, Selena Gomez was said to have caused outrage this week for flashing her ankle during a visit to a mosque and putting up the photo on Instagram

She has since deleted the photo after receiving a heavy backlash from fans around the worls.

Gomez was photographed during a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, covered herself completely for the trip but flashed her ankle and part of her leg for a snapshot.

Mosque rules reportedly state all skirts should be ankle-length, and it forbids any 'intimate behavior'.

According to TMZ, 'the mosque also prohibits laughing and smiling out of respect,' and GOmez reportedly broke that rule as she was seen laughing with celebrity friends Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Cody Simpson and Shay Mitchell.

One user reportedly commented: "If their intent was to learn about Islam they wouldn't be posing like they were standing outside and amusement park.

"I like Selena Gomez but to have her do something like this makes me no longer a fan."

Another added: "İt is not hate. She should have been more sensitive about mosques. That place is holy and for praying. Not a place to take photos and have fun!"

But some people b, with one wracked Selena and her friends, writing: "They're not disrespectful. Hundreds of thousand of people visit Sheikh Zayed's mosque in Abu Dhabi.

"It's a place of worship, yes I know, but God never forbade the entry of other religions into any mosque. So please respect the fact that they actually want to get to know Islam and its beauty."
