Muslims in Chicago say they have chosen to use this period to follow the divine injunction in the Quran, to be more generous, in the month of Ramadan.
Chicago Muslims give back to society
They are planning several events that will enable them share the Islam experience of love and generosity.
According to Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC), "In the spirit of this month of giving, CIOGC member organisations including mosques, schools, and service organisations across greater Chicagoland are hosting several programs during Ramadan as a means of giving back to the community."
'As part of a tradition of service during Ramadan, the Council of Islamic Organisations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) is encouraging Muslims to dedicate the holy month to giving back to their communities.'
Sources say Muslim youth volunteers will go round to gather food stuff that will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
