'I had my doubts about current Catholic leader,' Pope Benedict says

Pope Francis entry into the Vatican was accompanied with a lot of different emotions, mostly negative or uncertain.

Now, his predecessor, Pope Benedict, is revealing that he was in the uncertainty category, AOL reports.

In the English version of his autobiography, "Last Testament: In His Own Words," released on November 16, 2016, the German-born pontiff revealed his initial concerns with the choice for his successor.

He writes, "No one expected him. When I first heard his name, I was unsure."

However, Pope Benedict was quick to add that these doubts were wiped away by the current Catholic leader's passion for God.

"But when I saw how he spoke with God and with people, I truly was content. And happy," he said.

Pope Benedict went on discuss Pope Francis, who he says, "embodies holiness, and is a man of God."

Others topics explored in the book include his alleged Nazi upbringing, the "Vatileaks" case (his butler leaked letters of alleged corruption and scandal in the Vatican) and cleaning up clerical sexual abuse, referred to as "dirt in the church."

The ex-pope also discusses his resignation, which created a huge buzz because he become the first Pope in over 700 years to resign from the Vatican.

Decreasing physical and mental powers were stated as the explanation in the official resignation statement.

His resignation was announced by the Vatican on February 11, 2013.

The Catholic Times describes the book as, "The most sincere interview which Benedict XVI has given ... an essential book."
