Gang-raped 71-yr-old nun discharged from hospital

Thousands are expected to join the rally in support of the 71-year-old nun who was gang-raped at her convent school

The 71-yr-old nun was gang raped by six men during a raid at a convent school in West Bengal's Nadia district last Saturday, has left the hospital and has flown out of Kolkata to an unknown destination.

Times of India reports that Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital superintendent A.N.Mondol said the Sister Superior of Convent of Jesus and Mary, who had been declared fit for discharge, was released from hospital at around 2:45am.

"She was officially discharged at 2:20am but it took another 25 minutes for her to collect her belongings and leave," Mondol said.

It was gathered that before leaving, she blessed all doctors and hospital staff. The nun also expressed gratitude for the treatment and care at the hospital.

The nun was admitted to the hospital after being brutalized by dacoits at the convent at Gangnapur in Ranaghat in West Bengal's Nadia district in the early hours of March 14.

CID teams visited the convent yesterday and were seen taking photographs and making sketches of the convent building.

The West Bengal government had on March 18 decided to hand over the case to the CBI as the demand for justice grew louder with the culprits still at large. But the investigating agency is yet to formally take charge of the case.

No arrest have been made even five days after the incident though 15 persons have been detained in connection with it, police said.
