CAN described El-Rufai’s comment as ‘reckless’ added that statistic show that Christian has 55 percent of the Kaduna State Population.
CAN attack governor over comment on Christian, Muslim population
The Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State Chapter has attacked the state governor, Nasir Elrufai, over a comment he made on a TV that Muslims have 70 percent population with Christians having the remaining 30.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, CAN Secretary, Rev Sunday Ibrahim said Governor El-Rufai’s statement on a Channels TV Live Programme, ‘Sunrise Morning’ could further divide the residents of Kaduna along religious and ethnic lines.
Rev Sunday who said the Christian body rejected the governor’s claim, adding that El-Rufai’s claim has the tendency of splitting the people of the state.
"It is very surprising to hear that coming out from the Governor. What I know is that there are data that could be made available to whoever that cares to see. We are very surprise that a leader could come out to say what he want to say. Some have said that the Christian and Muslim population is about 50/50. Some data show that Christians are 55 percent and Muslims are 45 percent in terms of population,” Rev Sunday said.
"He should have verified his fact before coming out to make the statement on a national television. We stand to say no to that very pronouncement from the governor. We don't accept that to be true,” Rev Sunday added.
