Islam's most influential leader in Nigeria celebrates 10 yrs as sultan of Sokoto
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, is set to celebrate his 10th anniversary on November 5, 2016.
In light of this huge accomplishment, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto and the Magajin Garin Sokoto are making a lot of arrangements for this day, Daily Trust reports.
Speaking to journalists at the palace, a Senior Counselor named Alhaji Hassan Danbaba said the Emir of Kano and Etsu Nupe are expected to send over 500 horses, while 700 are expected from the Emir of Argungu.
He also shared details on other arrangements, adding that new traditional title holders will be turbanned by the Sultan in March.
Danbaba went to pay his compliments to the Sultan, who he described as being very committed to unity and the cause of humanity.
“One of the most tremendous achievements is unity of Muslim Ummah and Nigeria at large,” he added.
The event is set to begin with a dinner on Wednesday, November 2nd, followed by a symposium on the Sultanate’s contributions to politics, economy, others on Thursday, November 3, 2016.
Special prayers for peace and unity will be held at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Sokoto, on Friday, November 4th, while the finale, slated for November 5th, will have a grand durbar, featuring thousands of horse riders.
President Muhammadu Buhari and other notable guests are expected to attend this last day of activities.
Alhaji Abubakar was installed as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto Caliphate on November 2, 2006.
